” I have always had a soft spot for koalas and was so heartbroken to learn about the horrific devastation caused by the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires and its effects on their dwindling population. An estimated loss of about 8000 koalas has lead this beautiful creature to now be vulnerable to extinction.  This painting was intended to reflect their resilient nature. The wind representative of the turbulent problems it faces, yet still, it remains stoic. I hope this piece serves as inspiration to us all and a reminder that we can weather any storm. ” Kylie SHEAHON

Kylie SHEAHON

Kylie has always had fond memories of painting and drawing throughout her childhood and always seemed to have a natural talent for it. She completed a Visual Arts subject during high school but after graduating, chose to pursue a career in Education. She completed her Bachelor of Education in 2009 and taught as a full-time primary school teacher for nearly a decade.

In 2020, after taking maternity leave and surviving her first full year as a new parent, Kylie took an opportunity to do a social watercolour class with friends. She rediscovered how much joy painting brought into her life. Shortly after, she bought her own paints and began her new journey, discovering the versatility of watercolours and teaching herself the medium through trial and error. Kylie is becoming well-known for her realistic art and her attention to detail. She particularly enjoys painting Australian birds and mammals and is extremely passionate about using her art to reconnect people with nature.

Currently, Kylie juggles the roles of being a wife, mother, teacher and artist.  She has taken on commissions, produced prints and is excited about exploring opportunities to use her art to support the conservation of animals.
