100 Artworks for a Koala entry: Title: ‘Uncertain Future’ Size: 25cmx 25cm Medium: pen and ink on paper.
“As all young animals do, this koala joey instinctively places absolute trust in its parents to nurture, protect and carry it forward into a safe and productive future, sadly completely unaware of the man-made havoc to come. The title “Uncertain Future” reflects the challenges brought about by the current climate crisis which too many of our Earth’s species face, particularly the decimation of so much of Australia’s koala population and vital habitat following the recent catastrophic bush fires.” Daisy Claridge
Artist bio
For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the incredible complexity to be found in nature when you take the time to look closely. Every living thing on our planet is awesome and I try to capture every minute detail in my pen and ink drawings. We need to act now and become more aware of the many vital conservation issues which we all face and I believe artists are in a position to bring wildlife and nature into people’s homes and help raise that awareness.
I have been drawing most of my life and I am much more comfortable with a pen or pencil in my hand than a brush. I have completed a Certificate III in Drawing (Hons) and enjoyed classes in life-drawing and printmaking. My pen and ink work gradually evolved into the trademark fine-detail technique which I love – it lends itself perfectly to my preference for realism and passion for all things furry and feathered. I also enjoy the challenge of working with such an unforgiving medium!
As a member of the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society, the Wildlife Artists Society of Australasia and the Bowral Art Society I have exhibited locally and interstate and also run several successful workshops at the Sydney Society for Conservation Biology. I sell limited edition and open edition fine art prints, printed locally in Moss Vale, NSW, as well as originals and commissions. All are available online through my website and Etsy store along with a growing range of quality merchandise featuring my artwork and nature photography.
