100 Artworks for a Koala:  Title: ‘Koala portrait with gum leaves.

Size: W 28cm x H 39cm unframed

(framed in reclaimed timber W 33.5cm x H 45.5cm)

Medium: colour pencil on paper.

“The devastation of recent bushfires has shocked us all, and resulted in an abundance of sad imagery and stories of hurt and loss. As important as it is to see, hear and learn from these, I wanted to show a face of hope on a predominantly blank page; to create a space to focus on the simple beauty and worthiness of our iconic koala and eucalypts. The koala approaches gently with expectation that the viewer will take notice and perhaps take action.” Joanne Everad (formerly Pearcy).

Based in the leafy green outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Joanne focuses her art on wildlife illustration and commissioned pencil portraits. Capturing in an artwork something of the subject’s personality, she has a passion for the conservation of Australia’s wildlife and environment and hopes that her art can bring a bit of awareness to these areas. Recent opportunities of public artworks have broadened Joanne’s art practise and helped her bring wildlife artworks to a broader audience.
