100 Artworks for a Koala entry: Title: ‘ Time to Rejuvenate

Size: w 100 cm x 69 cm   | Medium: mixed media on 300 gsm Fabriano Paper

“I remember the first night I heard a koala in my backyard. It’s a sound that is incredibly hard to forget! I now feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to experience that, it’s hard to believe that the koala is becoming so endangered through loss of their habitat that this is becoming less and less likely. After all the fires, the terrible drought, it’s time to support, plan for years ahead and to rejuvenate” Kylie Fogarty.

Kylie FOGARTY: “I  have been infatuated with drawing from a young age. It is intrinsic to the process of my art practice. Drawing enables a simplification of subject matter, providing a catalyst for interpretation, expression, and exploration of time and place. From time to time I delve into the world of colour. However, I embrace the use of monotone in my artwork, enjoying the limited palette in which I can express my thoughts. These new works reflect my fascination of the tree, focusing on various elements through texture, line work and negative space.”

Kylie Fogarty is a visual artist based in Canberra. She has a studio looking out to green corridors of trees synonymous with Canberra’s ‘bush city’. In 2018, she was commissioned to create two large scaled media works for Quest Canberra’s foyer, which featured the Stringybark gum trees. She also explores her responses and connection to the natural world which include cloud formations, coastal scenes and rainforest.

Kylie was a finalist in, The 2018 Grace Cossington Smith Art Award and The Lyn McCrea Drawing Prize 2018. Kylie’s works are housed in many collections, including archival in the National Gallery of Australia as part of the Animalia International Print Exchange in 2013 and 2015.  Kylie Fogarty is represented by Aarwun Gallery, Gallery of Small Things and Humble House gallery. In November, she will exhibit new works as part of her Artist in Residence at Barton Estate Winery, Murrumbatemen, NSW.
