“The size and status of koala populations differ significantly across Australia. Koalas in some regions face increasing threats from urban expansion, disease, habitat loss, vehicle strike, and predation by dogs, and from their susceptibility to drought and climate change. Queensland, New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory koala populations are listed as ‘Vulnerable’ under national environment law. In NSW, there is now an emergency push to change this environmental status to ‘Endangered’ as in the last 20 years the NSW population has decreased by 2/3.  As a wildlife carer, I find it incomprehensible that more isn’t being done to protect the habitat of this Iconic Australian animal. The devastating 2020 bushfires decimated crucial habitat, yet there were still reports of land clearing after the fires in NSW and Queensland.  How can this still happen? ‘Sid‘  needs your help.”  Angela ROBERTSON-BUCHANAN
