100 Artworks for a Koala entry: Title: ‘You’re the One That I Want!’
Size: 56cm w x 70cm h (artwork only) Medium / technique: watercolour on Artistico Fabriano 640gsm watercolour paper.
“You’re The one that I Want” – I visit Healesville Sanctuary on a regular basis to sketch and photograph the animals for reference purposes. This painting eventuated from one of my visits. I thought it appropriate for Living With Koalas as this piece shows the Koala reaching for his food source! Their habitat in many places has been devastated due to bush fires and illegal logging so Koalas’ food is in short supply but not for this little guy! I used watercolour and gouache on very thick Fabriano 640gsm watercolour paper. It was a challenge as this piece is the largest watercolour I have created up to the present.” Denise Smith
