“ I have always had a great love for all creatures great and small, it breaks my heart to see the terrible devastation that the 19/20 bushfires and human development has and is continuing to have on the population of our beautiful Koalas. I created ‘Daydreamer’ to represent how life should be for our national treasure, carefree, snoozing, dreaming the day away in their favourite gumtree, safe from harm. We all need to be doing everything we can to protect and save our Koalas. I hope my contribution to the 100 ARTWORKS FOR A KOALA helps in some small way to do this. ” Paula TUININGA
Artist bio
Paula TUININGA: Melbourne based Artist, born in the UK, I have called Australia home for the past 40 years. “I grew up with a passion for all things creative, especially drawing. Apart from attending short courses at The Melbourne School of Art in my youth I am mainly self-taught.
After years of taking a backseat to my career in visual merchandising/retail and then to raising my beautiful kids, I have recently reconnected with my love for drawing. What started of as a hobby, drawing portraits for family and friends has quickly grown into a business with customers in Australia, The United Kingdom and America.
Primarily a commissioned pet and people portrait artist, my favourite medium is pastel. I love its vibrancy, versatility, and its richness. I love to capture that moment in time, the eyes, characteristics, personality, and emotion of the subjects. Working from photos I strive to include every minute detail that only the loved ones or owners will notice, to create a unique piece of art that evokes an intimate connection and emotional attachment for the recipient.
As my artistic journey continues, I am so excited to see where it will take me.” Paula TUININGA
