100 Artworks for a Koala entry: Title: The Party’s Over.   Size: H 34 cm x  W 16 cm x  L 18 cm. Medium / Materials: Ceramic – earthenware. low fired artist-made glazes, under glaze, oxides and slip. Technique: Handmade, coil built, hand glazed and glaze painted, multi-fired.

“This work is about the extinction of the koala. It references the past slaughter of 8 million koalas during the international koala fur trade (1888 – 1927) and, the recent loss of biodiversity including 50,000 koalas in the 2020 bushfires. A woman dressed in a hat and coat trimmed with koala fur and decorated with Eucalyptus punctata flora sips a cocktail complacently. A koala grips her skirt, seeking protection from hunters and climate change. The woman’s complacency epitomises the complacency of Australian society. The cocktail represents our cultural lack of environmental awareness and, action to preserve and protect our native fauna and flora. The Eucalyptus punctata represents the biodiversity lost in the recent bushfires.”  Amanda Bromfield
